Auto Start Stop function.

Red lights, traffic jams, road works – in everyday driving situations there are countless instances where the engine is idling, unnecessarily burning fuel. This is prevented by the Auto Start Stop function.

The Auto Start Stop function switches off the engine when the vehicle is not moving or if the driver disengages the clutch. The intelligent electronics system has already calculated how much the battery is charged and if other systems – such as the air conditioning or rear windscreen heating – require more energy. When the journey continues, the engine is started immediately when the clutch is engaged. This BMW EfficientDynamics technology is used in the BMW 520d with manual transmission. The result is the elimination of unnecessary fuel consumption and emission.
